What is Neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback is a mental exercise designed to help you improve brain function and achieve a balanced nervous system. It’s a special type of biofeedback that utilizes EEG technology to read your brainwaves and then help your brain learn to function more efficiently by providing positive feedback when your brain waves are well regulated.
What is wrong with my brain?
If you or someone you love is suffering from impaired attention, concentration, or even a psychological disorder like anxiety or depression, part of the problem is likely an inefficient and dysregulated nervous system.
Your brain waves tell a story that an EEG lets us understand its meaning. If you’re sad, you might not be making enough the relaxing of the alpha waves you need.
If you’re anxious or fidgety, your brain might be running in overdrive producing too many fast high beta waves. If you can’t concentrate, your brain might be running interference with slower sleepy theta waves instead of giving you the focused beta waves you need.
How did my brain get this way?
We live in a fast-paced world. We are constantly adapting to our environment and changing priorities. Your brain responds by speeding up when it has to and slowing down when it doesn’t.
Deadlines and danger abound, but sometimes the crisis isn’t immediate or not as serious as we perceive it to be.
For those of us with over-active nervous systems, we may get excited easily and have trouble returning to baseline. This can make navigating daily life a challenge and waste our precious mental resources.
How can I fix it?
Don’t just sit there, train that brain!
Just like a computer gets slower over time, our brains can become inefficient and dysregulated. Neurofeedback training can help you to get your edge back, calm down, or kick that case of the blues.
When you hit the gym, you focus on training specific muscles or movements to get you in shape for the challenges of daily life.
Neurofeedback is like hitting the gym for your brain. It helps your brain learn to function more efficiently and effectively. But to get sharp and stay sharp, you need to repeat the skills over and over until it feels automatic.
Train Your Brain
- You go to the gym to keep your body in shape, but what are you doing to keep your mind on track?
- Low Resolution Brain Electromagnetic Tomography (loRETA) allows us to image deep corners of the brain and track networks responsible for things like attention, fear, and pain. By cross-referencing your brain’s electrical signals against an atlas of MRI data you can get a detailed understanding of what areas might need a tune up.
- Entrainment offers a simple way to calm your brainwaves through sound. We can guide you to target a specific frequency and start training at home with little more than a pair of stereo headphones and a simple smartphone app.
- Brain Stimulation – Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is a form of neurostimulation that uses constant, low direct current delivered via electrodes on the head. This is no electric shock therapy. We use micro doses of electricity that help move cells to turn on or off depending on what we are treating.
