Brain Fog

As We Age Our Brains Change

Brain fog is a general term that refers to deterioration in our mental abilities. This can be caused by normal aging, a neurodegenerative process, a toxic exposure, or another unknown source.

Do you find it more difficult than before to learn new things, remember where you put something or an important date?

Maybe it’s hard to pay attention in a conversation or concentrate while you’re reading.

This confused feeling could be a mild form of cognitive decline.

It’s Time to Get Rid of Those Cobwebs and Free Yourself from the Fog

See how it helped someone like you…

Sarah was 62 and had been working in HR as an administrator for the past 30 years.

Over the past year she noticed her mind wasn’t feeling as sharp as it once had. Her mind felt hazy, and she had trouble organizing her day.

Sarah leaned heavily on her Outlook calendar and administrative assistant to keep her day on track, but she wanted to have her edge back.

She read about neurofeedback online and wondered if it could help her regain her focus.

She came in for a baseline neuropsychological assessment to gauge her current cognitive abilities relative to her peers.

Sarah displayed below average performance on tests of processing speed, sustained attention, working memory, and switching between tasks efficiently.

She then completed an EEG brain scan to see how efficiently her brain was using its resources relative to her peers. The scan showed an excess of slow wave activity in the frontal lobes, where attention and executive function are located.

Sarah completed 30 neurofeedback sessions focusing on improving her ability to regulate her brain waves in these areas.

After three months, she completed a follow-up neuropsychological evaluation. She was delighted to find that her processing speed had improved to the average range, and her sustained attention was now close to high average.

She still needed help with organization, but she now felt more confident about employing the cognitive and behavioral strategies that I taught her.

Most importantly, she felt more clear-headed and her mood brightened.
